WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade item increases the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless the item upgrades is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for those with higher variance due to the requirement to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher item level upgrade level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any type of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to the enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current item level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear from other sources. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items that can be used to upgrade items weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They are purchased by players through NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with an button, which displays an item's preview when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the slot of the item and the current level of the Item Level Upgrade. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting a new recipe. The upgrade discount increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Unlike Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade require a variety of means which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, a number of new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that same item upgrading level will cost less even if they belong to an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players have reached certain achievement milestones.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system that was introduced in 10.1, and come in 4 ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be used to purchase equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for upgrading. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, based on the type or equipment that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by doing outdoor activities or taking on dungeons and raids of all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it brings some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it will no longer require Flightstones. This is to allow players to get their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
