Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade

The stats of an item can be improved through upgrading it, which is also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment boosts the stats linearly.

Players can recycle six items at once to gauge each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling items scales depending on their rarity and level.

Upgrade components

Glyphs

Each glyph comes with a range of values that it could enhance a stat, as shown on the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an Artifact. This is not the exact amount at the glyph can increase a stat, but the maximum amount by which it can increase a stat. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the product you are in awe of it.

The majority of upgrade components installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them except for legendary upgrades and equipment. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use but it's not been applied to gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu on the Glyphs Panel. Rerolled items are not listed in the menu of upgrade options, but they can still be upgraded. These rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button, which changes the layout of the item level upgrade window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. The gauge of level is increased by recycling an item. This amount is determined by the rarity of the item and its level, which means items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.

Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll Weapon Traits for upgraded units. A reroll will roll the percentage chance of a particular weapon trait; if it rolls higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower, it remains unchanged. Weapons can be upgraded up to 3 times.

Rerolls are a great option for upgrading an item, however, players must be aware that it can lower the overall ilvl of the weapon based on the number of rerolls used in order to increase it to the final level. This effect is most noticeable on Diadems and Rings, since they have no other options to increase the ilvl.

The system of rerolls has been criticised by players for being too expensive and it's more equitable to let players pay for it in the form of money or a food item which would allow players to modify their build without wasting time and energy. However the paid rerolls aren't something that the developers would like to implement at this point in the game's development. Instead, they plan to include an ability to change races in the near future.

Leveling

There are several ways to upgrade an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount, which increases the upgrade value of a given stat.
