WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the Item Level Upgrade, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, tools, armor, and other items. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade item is able to be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the item slot, and the current item level. For instance weapons cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to lower the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of obtaining an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require a variety of means which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3 the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and several new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading other items to that same item upgrades level will be less expensive, even if they belong to a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is reduced, and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced too, but it is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that the crests can only be purchased for equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, contingent on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by working through content at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get lower-level gear or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. Crests can be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The use of these currencies isn't that difficult, but the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly. It is recommended to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the Best item upgrade gear that you can find and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to avail the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
