Path of Exile Item Upgrading

In Path of Exile, item upgrading is one of the best ways to improve your gear without relying on big-ticket drops or trade. This article will teach you how to upgrade your items efficiently.

Upgrading equipment grants an additional bonus to the item's base stats. The bonus increases with upgrade component's level and rarity.

Components

Upgrade components can make your armour and weapons stronger. You can acquire them by the destruction of enemies, finding them in spheres of items or buying them from karma merchants. They can also be salvaged from equipment that has them, or through a high-tier salvage kit like the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Unlike most other items upgrade components, upgrade components aren't destroyed when they are removed from an item.

Upgrade components are primarily used to upgrade an item however, they can also be used for other reasons. They can be stacked to increase the level of an upgradeable item, or they can be used to increase the experience gained when upgrading an existing weapon or piece of equipment. They can be made for additional benefits. For instance, a designed glyph will increase the chance of upgrading its target, whereas a boost upgrade will increase the attack or defense attribute of a weapon or armor.

Selecting an upgrade template from the GUI will let you bind it to an item. This will display the list of upgrade components that the item can be upgraded to. Alternately, you can use the workbench to select an upgrade template. In either scenario the item upgrader mod will be upgraded once enough upgrade components are collected.

Each component has a different experience multiplier that affects how much more experience an item will gain when it is upgraded with that component. For instance, organic components give a higher experience multiplier than mechanical ones. It is therefore best to upgrade with organic components until you reach the experience multiplier for the next rank of the equipment or weapon, and then move to mechanical upgrades.

Each item has an upgrade limit number that it is possible to receive. The number of items that can be upgraded is determined by their upgradeable rank and the kind of upgrade they can get. For instance, the most expensive possible upgrade for a weapon is a tier 10 weapon. The most commonly used upgrade is a gun with tier 6 and a armor upgrade for tier 5.

Sets

If you are upgrading an item upgrader with an added bonus it can be rerolled once, and its guarantee will reset back to zero. The same power die is used to roll an item as it would be used to level it up. However the new item comes with different bonuses. To upgrade an item, you'll need a power die of each type (Dice 4 or 6 drop from monsters 21+ and Giants; Dice 7 drops from bosses) and the appropriate amount of Minerals and Erons. Rerolling

If the player has enough rerolling tokens, they can roll any item they have acquired during the game. If an item is rerolled, it will be replaced with a level 1 version in another set. Reroll tokens are available at the store for a small amount of in-game currency. They are non-refundable. The new item will come with the same bonuses like the first, however the stats will also be different.

Players can change the identity of their equipment, in addition to changing it's roll by interfacing with an NPC upgrader.
