World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

The item upgrade lets players boost an item's gear rating up to 700 points and add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory and heading to the kiln.

Certain items can be upp'd to benefit from their unique stats (like perfect made breakpoint armour that can be rolled to use in melee PvP) and others, like weapons, do not change significantly after an upgrade, so they aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats such as crit chance, attack damage PvE and damage from PvP. Weapons also have a flat bonus which increases their damage per second. Some weapons also come with a fixed bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are placed in a unit. In some cases this bonus can add up to more than the amount of damage that a weapon can sustain by itself.

The cost of upgrading a weapon is contingent on its rarity as well as its current level. For instance, a +2 weapon will require two regular Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will increase until it needs a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point it will reset to one.

Upgrades to weapons also change the stats of their base. While this is usually beneficial however, it could have negative consequences as well. This means that a weapon will gain 3% attack damage if it is upgraded from an 8 attack damage sword to an 11 attack damage sword. However the 3% difference doesn't mean that it will be hit 3 times less often because it's an absolute number.

A weapon can be rerolled by pressing the green button that has arrows that circle in the item menu. This will roll an item and alter its stats but not reset the weapon's levels, or tie it to the account status.

Armor

A few tweaks to your armor can make a huge differences in your ability to survive. Certain sets can offer MASSIVE boosts to poison or curse, fire, and magic resistance, which can make it easier to navigate through tough terrain. The more defense your character has, the more value you will get from every point of health you have therefore it is important to upgrade your armor as much as possible.

To upgrade your armor, head to any of the Great Fairy Fountains in the game. By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town in Gerudo Town, you can unlock perks for your armor. You'll typically want to keep these upgrades to the weapon you'll use to beat the game.
