WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it is no longer required to purchase Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests with the best equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly relevant for trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
