Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was a return to a traditional sextet style, and an even more consistent and powerful effort that had a more grittier edge. The edgier sound of Turn Back reflected the development of the group. Drummer Bobby Kimball's increased virtuosity was reflected by the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature.
