Turn Back, the band's third studio album, was an attempt to return to the traditional sextet style, and an even more consistent and powerful effort that had a more grittier edge. Its edgier sound was a reflection of the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's increased virtuosity on drums, and an improved, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams.
