WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts the random substatus.

The upgraded gear typically has a more value in trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less useful for those with lower requirements due to the requirement to roll the perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher item level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item that is used to upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and can be visited anytime to upgrade your gear. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however they'll always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which displays an image of the item at its next upgrade level when the player has enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot for the item upgrading and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. After an item level upgrade has been upgraded to a certain level, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases according to the number of items being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no item upgrader available at the start of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via various methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system was altered a bit, with several new features added. When a player has an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading other items to that level will cost less, even in the event that they are part of another set of gear.

Crests

When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a few options. Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system will introduce a few changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they only have one use. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the best gear that you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is especially true for items such as rings and trinkets that occupy several slots. The discount for the entire account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality gear.
